# FAST, EASY DISCHARGE

Insert a discharge tube or pump through top port and spanner bar. Anti-suction geometry cathedral windows at the bottom of the tube prevent the liner from being drawn into the tube. Regulated shop air is attached to the inlet tube.

# LINER INFLATION

As air is pumped into the Air-Evac Starfish liner, product is forced toward the center discharge tube. The AirEvac liner inflates automatically as product is pumped out, reducing residuals and virtually eliminating waste. The configuration of the liner is what gives the Arena Air-Evac Starfish its name.

# FINAL EVACUATION

Unique pockets continue to inflate and move product toward the discharge tube. As the inner liner collapses, product continues to pool in the center for complete discharge.

# Vertically Integrated Aseptic Filling

Our new, patent pending aseptic valve and bottom fill, bottom discharge liquid liner were designed to seamlessly integrate with our Arena 330™ Shipper and Air Evac Liner Systems to provide unmatched aseptic filling, transport, and discharge capability.

The Arena aseptic valve comes in two configurations, a 2.5 inch tri-clamp butterfly and a DN50 butterfly version, both connectable and built with FDA approved materials.

These valves are capable of withstanding steam sterilization for up to 20 minutes at 20 PSI $( 2 8 5 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { F } )$ , 5 minutes at 25 PSI $. 2 6 6 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { F } )$ and 2 minutes at 30 PSI (274ºF).

# Liquid Liners, Filling & Discharge Accessories

Requiring only one person to set up, fill, and discharge, Arena liquid liners are recyclable, lower your labor costs, and deliver best-inclass product recovery, even for highly viscous liquids. Our liners use FDA-approved materials and Food Safety Management System certified manufacturing processes (FSSC2200) that meet Kosher and IMS standards.

Liquid liners are available in a variety of styles which can be customized to clients’ specific packaging, filling, and discharge operations. Barrier films that protect against moisture, oxygen, environmental contaminants, and/or UV light can also be added.

Our Air Evac® technology ensures maximum product recovery with a patented automatic air delivery system that replaces product volume with regulated air. The air and product chambers are separate, ensuring that air never comes in direct contact with the stored product.

## Irradiation Process Overview
# ARENA PRODUCTS LINER IRRADIATION PROCESS

At Arena Products we use an external irradiation service.

After the liner bags are assembled, packaged and loaded onto skids at the Arena facility the liner bags are shipped to the irradiation facility.

The boxed liner bags are removed from the truck and placed on special conveying skids that are acceptable to the dimensions of the irradiation tunnel.

Dosimeters are attached to the conveying skids.

The liner bags are sent through the irradiation tunnel and exposed to gamma radiation and given a dose of 15-35 kGy which is the national standard for sterilizing packaging materials. The gray (symbol: Gy) is a derived unit of ionizing radiation dose in the International System of Units. It is defined as the absorption of one joule of radiation energy per kilogram of matter.

Upon completion of the irradiation process, the liner bags are then re-loaded back on the truck and shipped back to Arena Products with the processing documentation of dosage received. The liners are now ready for distribution.

Our polyethylene liners are tough, yet flexible and can be configured for your unique materials and applications.

Styles. Arena liquid liners come in a variety of configurations: pillow, fitted and open-top. Our patented Air-Evac $\\textcircled{8}$ liners offers hands-free operation and low residuals especially with thicker products.

Plys. We can vary the number of bag plys according to your needs. 1,2 and 3 ply bags are available.

Barrier films. A great option for products that are moisture or oxygen sensitive. Liners can be configured with films that will render the exact barrier properties for your application.

Agency. Arena liquid liners meet appropriate agency approvals. All FDA materials are used, and the finished bags meet Kosher, IMS (Intermediate Milk Shipping) and USDA standards.

Certifications. Arena liners are manufactured in a third-party registered facility. The Food Safety Management System is certified to ISO22000:2005 and cGMP and design are certified to PAS223:2011 for the manufacture and provision of food packaging.

Arena liners come with a variety of fittings in sizes, styles and colors that can be custom ordered to meet your company’s requirements.

The Arena Drop-In Liner Cassette System makes set-up and operation a one-person task that goes from start to finish in less than one minute. No liner system is faster, more efficient and easier to use.

Ɣ Simply unfold cassette, attach the fill hose, and drop the cassette into the bottom of the shipper.

Ɣ Lock the bottom drain fitting into place.

Start the product flow. Cassette fills evenly and consistently from bottom up.

# Common IBC Load Patterns for Truck Transit

Arena Products recommends that all cargo including the Arena 330 Shipper be properly secured such that there is no movement during transit. Arena 330 Shippers should be loaded onto trucks single height. It is also recommended that each shipper be banded as illustrated in the filling instructions. Please see Technical Bulletin TB201 for information on banding materials.

## Aseptic Bag Filling
# Aseptic Bag Filling Guideline

Aseptic liquid liners for Intermediate Bulk Containers come in various sizes. The most common and cost effective bag being the 1,000 liter $8 1 " \\times 8 5 "$ bag. The Arena 330 Shipper has a capacity of 1,250 liters. To maximize fill volume, a slightly larger bag would be required. With the $8 1 " \\times 8 5 "$ bag being somewhat of a commodity, it makes good sense to use them and simply fill the Arena 330 Shipper to a slightly lesser volume. To get the most out of these smaller bags, our test data shows that using an inexpensive corrugated box liner inside the shipper actually increases the bag capacity by changing the internal dimensions of our box to better fit the bag. This method now enables the use of the industries most competitively priced aseptic bag with the worlds best, all plastic, collapsible IBC.

The following chart typifies the volume achieved with the Arena 330 Shipper when using the smaller $8 1 " \\times 8 5 "$ bag as well as another common bag size of $8 1 " \\times 9 3 "$ . Data is shown with and without using the corrugated sheet liner set. For comparison, fill data on standard non-aseptic bags is also shown below.

# New for 2020: Vertically Integrated Aseptic Filling

Our new, patent pending aseptic valve and bottom fill, bottom discharge liquid liner were designed to seamlessly integrate with our Arena 330™ Shipper and Air Evac Liner Systems to provide unmatched aseptic filling, transport, and discharge capability.

The Arena aseptic valve comes in two configurations, a 2.5 inch tri-clamp butterfly and a DN50 butterfly version, both connectable and built with FDA approved materials.

These valves are capable of withstanding steam sterilization for up to 20 minutes at 20 PSI $( 2 8 5 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { F } )$ , 5 minutes at 25 PSI $. 2 6 6 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { F } ;$ ) and 2 minutes at 30 PSI $( 2 7 4 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { F } )$ .

# Liquid Liners, Filling & Discharge Accessories

Requiring only one person to set up, fill, and discharge, Arena liquid liners are recyclable, lower your labor costs, and deliver best-inclass product recovery, even for highly viscous liquids. Our liners use FDA-approved materials and Food Safety Management System certified manufacturing processes (FSSC2200) that meet Kosher and IMS standards.

Liquid liners are available in a variety of styles which can be customized to clients’ specific packaging, filling, and discharge operations. Barrier films that protect against moisture, oxygen, environmental contaminants, and/or UV light can also be added.

Our Air Evac® technology ensures maximum product recovery with a patented automatic air delivery system that replaces product volume with regulated air. The air and product chambers are separate, ensuring that air never comes in direct contact with the stored product.

4\. When the fitment is seated fully in the Bottom Discharge hole, push the locking bracket down into place to secure the fitment.

# LINER INFLATION

As product is pumped out, the automatic air delivery system replaces product volume with regulated air, inflating the air chamber in the Air-Evac $\\textcircled{8}$ bag.

# FINAL EVACUATION

When the Air-Evac $\\textcircled{8}$ bag is fully inflated, the air delivery system shuts off automatically. At this point, the amount of product left in the bag will be at an absolute minimum.

# Common IBC Load Patterns for Truck Transit (48ft. Truck)

Arena Products recommends that all cargo including the Arena 330 Shipper be properly secured such that there is no movement during transit. Arena 330 Shippers should be loaded onto trucks single height. It is also recommended that each shipper be banded as illustrated in the filling instructions. Please see Technical Bulletin TB201 for information on banding materials.

## A330 Shipper Management
# Management of Arena Liquid Liners and the Arena 330 Shipper at Elevated Temperatures

The following guidelines are to be used in the filling, maintaining, reheating, stacking and transport of A330 shippers and liners at elevated temperatures.

A. For filling at elevated temperatures;

1. Use Proper Personal Protective Equipment while hot filling.
2. Do not fill over 300 gallons (1136 L).
3. Maximum fill temperature of $1 8 5 ^ { \\circ } F$ $( 8 5 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { C } )$ .
4. Allow tote to cool to $1 2 0 ^ { \\circ } F$ , $( 4 9 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { C } )$ on a flat surface before racking,

   stacking or shipping.\*
5. Do not purge air into the enclosed bag before or after filling.
6. Bottom of the tote must be fully supported on a flat surface.
7. Heavy fill hoses should be supported or counter-balanced to reduce weight on the

   fitment during the fill process.
8. Hot Fill Gland Clamp AP3094 (3”) or AP3095 (2”) must be used for all fills above 160oF (71oC).

B. For stacking and racking at elevated temperatures;

9. Stationary stacking of hot filled A330 shippers can be done up to 3 high using 15000\_006 Hot Stack Fixture.
10. Racking of elevated hot filled A330 shippers can be done only if all 9 footpads are

   supported.

C. For maintaining or reheating to elevated temperatures using heater pads, blankets, or chambers;

11. Maximum elevated temperature of $1 3 0 %$ $( 5 4 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { C } )$ .
12. While reaching or maintaining elevated temperature in A330 shippers, stacking can be done up to 3 high using 15000\_006 Hot Stack Fixture.
13. While reaching or maintaining elevated temperature in A330 shippers racking can be done only if all 9 footpads are supported.

## Arena Bag Wringer
# Center Drain Arena Bag Wringer

The Arena Products Bag Wringer is a tool to facilitate the discharge of liquid product from the Modified Arena A330 or Buckhorn Caliber 315 Shipper when using a basic, bottom discharge center drain pillow bag (AP2372.xx). It enables the operator to easily wind the bag up and towards the bottom drain port, thereby minimize the need to manually manipulate the bag during the discharge process.

Mount the bag wringer on the front wall of the shipper above the bottom drain. Ensure that the metal channel drops down over shipper walls, fully seating it.

Release the ratchet lever on the winch by rocking it away from the gear. This will allow the strap to be pulled out across the shipper.

Unroll strap to provide ample length for engagement with the bag.

Discharge contents to a point that allows gathering of bag approximately 1’ from the corners of the bag opposite the bag wringer.

Feed the bag film tail through both D-rings. Bend the bag film tail around the top D-ring.

Feed the tail through the bottom D-ring. Pull the strap to secure the connection.

Set the ratchet lever on the winch for clockwise rotation, by engaging it with the gear.

Begin cranking the winch to take up any slack in the strap. DO NOT apply actual tension at this time. Maintaining product level above drain hole will keep bag from being sucked into drain outlet. Over-cranking may damage bag and cause undo wear on the crank gears. Once the bag is pulled vertically upward from the bottom drain and bag film is taught, discontinue cranking. When discharge is complete, apply enough torque to the winch to allow release of ratchet pawl from gear. Crank winch counterclockwise to unwrap bag film and strap from around gear tube. Cranking counterclockwise, unwind the bag and then detach the D-rings.

1. Place the Arena Reusable Heater Pad (AP3328) in the bottom of the tote with the label facing the 48” wall.

2. Place heater in the tote (AP3330). Cord faces 48” wall.

3. Run cord up the inside $4 8 "$ wall and tape (Blue Painters Tape) to outside of the wall.

4. Collapse the 45” wall with the tapped heater cord first.

# Lock in the Savings!

The Starfish Liner Lock improves product safety and productivity for top discharge of fluids in food, health and beauty, chemical and industrial processing applications.

Currently, operators use a tube or other device to insert into fitments on bags when discharging product. These configurations are often loose fitting, making it possible for contaminants to enter the product and often result in product spillage, creating a safety hazard in the workplace.

In contrast, the Starfish Liner Lock mechanically bonds the pumping system to the liner, creating a tight seal that keeps out contaminants. The secure fitment also keeps the pumping system stable, and reduces the possibility of hoses flapping around and resulting in spills and waste.

As product is pumped out, the automatic air delivery system replaces product volume with regulated air, inflating the air chamber in the Air-Evac® bag.

# FINAL EVACUATION

When the Air-Evac $\\textcircled{8}$ bag is fully inflated, the air delivery system shuts off automatically. At this point, the amount of product left in the bag will be at an absolute minimum.

Insert a discharge tube or pump through top port and spanner bar. Anti-suction geometry cathedral windows at the bottom of the tube prevent the liner from being drawn into the tube. Regulated shop air is attached to the inlet tube.

# LINER INFLATION

As air is pumped into the Air-Evac Starfish liner, product is forced toward the center discharge tube. The AirEvac liner inflates automatically as product is pumped out, reducing residuals and virtually eliminating waste. The configuration of the liner is what gives the Arena Air-Evac Starfish its name.

Unique pockets continue to inflate and move product toward the discharge tube. As the inner liner collapses, product continues to pool in the center for complete discharge.

## Wall-Mounted Air Regulator
# WALL MOUNTED AIR EVAC REGULATOR

For those customers who prefer to mount the Air Evac Regulator in a fixed position on a wall or cabinet, in close proximity to their pack line fill station, Arena Products has developed this option.

To take advantage of this configuration, customers would purchase the wall mounted model (AP3403.5), which includes the regulator and associated parts, such as a mounting bracket, a light duty spiral vacuum hose (8’ long) and fittings.

The advantages of this model are:

1. It eliminates the possibility of dropping the regulator on the floor and possibly damaging it.
2. The high input pressure air line could be positioned off the floor and out of the way of fork trucks and operators, leaving only a light duty vacuum hose being hung on a wall of the tote.

## Steaming Valves Guidance
# Steaming a Valve in Place

The customer does a Steam in Place process for cleaning and sterilization. The temperature of the steam is $2 5 0 ^ { \\circ } \\mathsf { F } .$ . Can the valve be subjected to this temperature?

1. AP3045 Ball Valve ( Banjo FDA union valve ball Part # UV204FPF2) – Max temp 150°F
2. AP3305 Gate Valve (Valterra Products, Gate Valve (SKU 7218).- Max Temp 205°F
3. AP3057 Butterfly Valve (Flexivalve)- Read Below

We have lots of customers steaming valves in different applications and circumstances. All the materials used are approved for food use (FDA) and even at elevated temperatures the materials are extremely unlikely to leach any chemicals.

Mechanically, depending on pressure and given enough time the plastic will soften under heating and eventually distort (particularly if there is pressure just one side of the valve). Generally speaking, we advise using higher temperatures for short periods rather than steaming for long periods.

The \`unofficial\` answer is yes, the valve is a very robust product and for a short period it should be fine – but it is down to the customer to test for their own application.

## Fixed Head Filling Method
# Fixed head filler or Lance - Filling Method

Arena Products has developed a new method for filling top-only liner bags by using a fixed-position spout or lance fill head. Traditionally, most Arena bag liners are wrapped around a corrugated sheet, to form a cassette, to be connected to a fill hose. It is then lowered to the floor of the A330 Shipper and then blossom out as the bag liner fills. This method requires a flexible hose and is not usually compatible with existing fixed-head or lance filling methods.

The new option allows a Top-fill, Top-discharge liner bag to be filled with a fixed-head spout or lance.

Accessories needed:

1. AP3122 – Pre-fabricated Urethane Band
2. AP3264 – 48” Spanner Bar for 2” top fitment OR AP3265 – 48” Spanner Bar for 3” top fitment.
3. AP2363 – Arena Air Evac Starfish bag, 3” top fitment only. OR AP2360 – Arena Air Evac Starfish bag, 2” top fitment only. OR AP2320 – 3-ply Liquid Liner Bag, 2” top fitment only.

Procedure:

1. Stretch the urethane band around the top rim of the Shipper.

2. Drape liner bag over A330 Shipper, ensuring that the top fitment is in the center of The Shipper.

3. Tuck all 4 corners of the bag underneath the urethane band at the four corners of the Shipper, with each corner of the bag protruding 3-4” beneath the band.

4. Carefully place the spanner bar on the shipper and engage the top fitment of the bag into the bar.

5. Position the shipper beneath the fixed fill head or retracted fill lance, ensuring that The fill head is directly positioned over the top fitment.

6. Start filling. The center of the liner bag will fall to the center of the Shipper. The corners of the liner bag will release by themselves. There is no need to release the corners of the liner bag manually.

## Tamper Evident Solutions
# Tamper Evident Solutions – Bottom Discharge Port

As an additional solution to discourage or show evidence of tampering, wire ties or cable-locks may be installed by drilling small holes in the Shipper base webbing (as illustrated below) and threading the ties through the bottom discharge port, thereby creating a barrier over the bottom fitment of the bag liner. This barrier will prevent the bung cap from being removed from the bottom discharge fitment.

Ties and cables are available in assorted lengths and configurations according to customer preference. The ideal length of the ties is 15 inches to accomplish the applications shown above. Hole diameter should be large enough only to accommodate the preferred tie or cable but should not exceed $1 / 4$ inch.

Stamped and numbered ties and cables are available if tracking shipped batches is desired.

# Arena Starfish™ II Lift with Air-Evac® Liner

Ɣ The wringer bracket (photo to the right) is designed to attach to the Arena patented bag wringer and allows for ease of placement on the Arena 330 Shipper. The bracket can remain attached while the wringer is in use or disconnected allowing the lift to be used preparing another shipper Ɣ Once the bag is completely discharged, the lift can be used to raise the wringer and bag out of the shipper

## Tamper Evident Strips
# Tamper Evident Strip

With the ever-increasing concern of being able to identify incidents of tampering with materials while being stored or transported, Arena Products is offering a viable solution to this problem.

Polyester tamper evident strips, applied directly to top the fitment (and bottom fitment if applicable) of the Arena bag liner at the completion of the fill process, is a cost effective and user friendly way of applying tamper evident features to the bulk product.

The tamper evident strips come in 1” by 6” pre-cut lengths for easy application in a manufacturing or warehouse environment. At the completion of the fill process, simply replace the bung cap, remove the backing film from the tamper evident strip and apply the strip across the fitment and cap and down the sides of the fitment.

Evidence of tampering or access to the product is identified by inspecting the strip and verifying that it has not been previously removed. Whenever the strip is removed, the red adhesive will separate from the transparent polyester. Any attempt to re-apply a removed strip will be visually apparent.

## Starfish Bag Clamping Instructions
# STARFISH™ END-OF- DISCHARGE OPTIONAL BAG CLAMPING INSTRUCTIONS

The Arena Air-Evac $\\textcircled{8}$ Starfish Liner out performs all other liners in leaving the least amount of residual liquid at the end the discharge process (average $< 1 % )$ ), with some products there are a few optional steps that can be taken to remove additional product, if desired.

To release the trapped product, follow the steps below.

1. Turn off the Air-Evac regulator and disconnect the blue Air-Evac tube from the regulator.

2. Deflate the air in the bag by piercing one of the air chambers.

3. With the dip tube or pump still in place in the center of the tote, grab each corner of liner, drape them over each corner of the top rim of the tote and clamp them with spring loaded clamps. This will create an “inverted umbrella” effect and any remaining liquid can flow down the inclined liner surface and re-flood the bottom of the dip tube or pump.

4. Cycle the pump a few times until satisfied.


Note: The photos below depict a tote with one wall removed, ONLY to accommodate a view of the concept. When in use, all four walls must be erected and locked in place.
